Status: Non-Exempt
Salary: $22.47 - $31.15 Hourly

Position Summary: Tallahassee Housing Authority is seeking a skilled Electrician to join our team. The Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. The ideal candidate will have expertise in low voltage and high voltage systems, use of ammeters and ohmmeters, power tools, blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and proficiency with hand tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  • Perform electrical work according to relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices such as ammeters and ohmmeters.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Utilize power tools and hand tools effectively to complete electrical tasks.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
  • Installing and maintaining: Wiring, lighting, control, and other electrical systems and components
  • Inspecting: Electrical systems and components, such as transformers and circuit breakers, to ensure proper installation and operation
  • Testing: Electrical systems and components using devices like ammeters, voltmeters, thermal scanners, and cable testers to identify problems
  • Diagnosing: Electrical issues by reading blueprints and diagrams, and troubleshooting problems
  • Repairing: Wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand and power tools, and replacing circuit breakers and conduit as needed
  • Documenting: Repairs and service information, including work orders and materials used
  • Following regulations: State and local building regulations, the National Electrical Code, and safety procedures
  • Planning: Layouts of fixtures, wiring pathways, and other electrical elements
  • Managing: Inventory of necessary supplies and parts, and working with other team members

Electrician Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Electrician with a focus on commercial electrical work.
  • Proficiency in working with low voltage and high voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with power tools and hand tools used in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills using ammeters and ohmmeters.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Previous experience in building maintenance or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of different types of wiring systems.
  • Certification in specific electrical areas.
