Notice of Public Hearing - December 9th, 2020
As part of the redevelopment of the Orange Avenue Apartments, the Florida Division of Historical Resources requires a period for public comment on the Resolution of Adverse Effects case study prepared by Paleo West Archeology. The case study can be reviewed on our website at https://www.tallha.org/orange-avenue-apartments-redevelopment . The case study recommends the following measures to mitigate the adverse effect (of demolition) to the Orange Avenue property:
1. Preparation of a historical narrative for a Florida Historical Marker and completion of a Florida Historical Marker Program Application for the Orange Avenue Apartments development to be installed following the redevelopment of the site.
2. Funding of an oral history or documentary project about the experience of Tallahassee's African American community and relationship to THA public housing during this period, highlighting the work of several organizations.
3. Development of a story map as a web-based tool to present the public with historical information about the Orange Avenue Apartments. The story map will include a historical narrative about the Orange Avenue Apartments that will be derived from informant interviews and other sources. This information will be conveyed through a variety of media, including photographs, audio, and video.
We will hold two public meetings via Zoom to discuss the case study and our plans for mitigation on the following dates and the times indicated below.
